Tony Parker 55pts vs Timberwolves 08/09 NBA *CAREER HIGH!
Description:
Being 0-3 really bothered Tony Parker.
The San Antonio Spurs needed every last layup and feathery jumper from the fast-moving Frenchman, whose unstoppable performance was just enough to fuel their first win.
Parker scored a career-high 55 points, including a 20-footer at the buzzer to force a second overtime, in San Antonio's 129-125 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
The Spurs avoided an 0-4 start for the first time since 1973, when they still played in the ABA.
"I just wanted to win so bad. I was going to try to do everything I can," said Parker, whose previous best was a 38-point effort in January 2006 at Miami. "It's just one of those games. Everything you do, it works. ... Obviously, everybody knows if I make my jump shots, I can do whatever I want. Tonight was just one of those games that everything was working."
After Al Jefferson backed down Tim Duncan and sank a turnaround hook to put Minnesota up 116-114 with 2 1/2 seconds left in the first overtime, Parker took the inbounds pass, dribbled right, pump-faked once and let the ball fly.
Swish.
He let a sly smile creep across his normally stone face as the Wolves trudged back to the bench.
Jefferson, who had 30 points and 14 rebounds, paused to sit on the scorer's table before play resumed and just shook his head as if to say, "What more can we do?"
Mike Miller had 12 of his 25 points in the first quarter for Minnesota, which held a nine-point lead twice but lost its edge late in the third while the Spurs closed with a 26-14 run.
The Wolves, who lost their third straight after winning their opener, threw everything they had against Parker, Duncan and the rest of the bunch.
"We're getting chances. It took Tony making every shot for them," Miller said. "We've got to figure out what we've got to do to win games. We'll just keep plugging away."
San Antonio picked up its sixth straight win and 11th in the last 12 meetings against Minnesota.
"I told our guys at the end of the game we could easily be 3-1, but the reality is we're 1-3 and we've got to keep fighting," Wolves coach Randy Wittman said. "I'm proud of their effort."
Parker scored six of his team's first eight points in the second overtime to stretch the lead to four, though Randy Foye made a 3-pointer from the corner to cut the lead to one. The Spurs were in perfect position to rebound a pair of missed jumpers, before Parker finally went to the line with 19 seconds left and made it 128-125.
"I saw it in his eyes, man. I could tell," said teammate Roger Mason, who had 26 points. "He was in that zone, like they say. He kept his foot on the pedal and just kept going and going and going. When a guy's like that, who knows?"
That gave Parker the highest scoring output by any individual opponent in the Wolves' 20-year history. Shaquille O'Neal had 53 points for Orlando in a game against Minnesota in 1994.
Parker was 22-of-36 from the field and added 10 assists and seven rebounds. According to sports researcher STATS, Inc., the last NBA player to have at least 55 points and 10 assists in a game was Michael Jordan. He had 57 points and 10 assists for Chicago against Washington on Dec. 23, 1992.
"Just an unbelievable effort, especially with the minutes he's played to continue to push like that," Duncan said.
Though their first two defeats were narrow, to Phoenix and Portland, the Spurs were sputtering with Manu Ginobili on the mend. Averaging nearly 31 points over San Antonio's four victories over the Wolves last season, he sank an astounding seven of nine 3-pointers in each matchup at Minnesota.
Well, Parker more than did his part to fill the void, as he's actually done all four times the Spurs have taken the court in Ginobili's absence to an ankle injury. He's been working on his outside shot, an effort that is clearly paying off.
"I have to shoot it with confidence," he said.
After surviving their opener by two points over Sacramento, the Wolves went cold in losses to Dallas and Oklahoma City. Randy Foye missed all 10 of his shots against the Thunder after going 3-for-14 against the Mavericks, and Miller -- whose arrival was designed to significantly upgrade their outside shooting -- was 1-for-7 from behind the arc in those games.
Miller got it going in this one, though, hitting a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and sinking his share down the stretch. That was one solace the Wolves could take from this, despite yet another devastating last-second defeat. Miller went 5-for-7 from 3-point range.

Tony Parker 55pts 10ast(Career-High) vs Minnesota [05-11-08]
Description:
Every single Point of his Career-High Game!! Full Tony Parker Highlights!
Game Info:
It took San Antonio two overtimes to beat the T'Wolves in Minnesota, and Parker played seemingly every minute of them. He finished with a line of 55 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds, while playing over 50 minutes in the process. In the absence of Manu Ginobili, it's clear that someone on the Spurs needed to step up and carry the team, and that's exactly what Parker did tonight. It was a career high for him, and just an amazing all-around performance.
The San Antonio Spurs needed every one of Tony Parkers career high 55 points in getting their first win of the season and defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in two overtimes.
Parkers 55 points was 17 more than his previous career high of 38, achieved against Miami in 2006. It was also the most field goals he has ever made (22) and attempted (36), beating his old records of field goals made (15) and attempted (31).
The 6-2 French point guard has already been tearing up the league by averaging a (so far) career high of 26 points in his first three games, on 53.5% from the field and 88.2% from the line. With the 55 points and 10 assists, Parkers averages after four games jump to 33.2 points and 7.3 assists on 56.8% from the field.
Parkers biggest shot of the night came after Al Jefferson hit a hook shot over Tim Duncan. The shot gave Minnesota a two point lead, 116-114 with 2.5 seconds left in the first overtime. Parker took the inbounds pass, dribbled right, pump-faked once and hit the 20-foot jumper at the buzzer.
Parker played 50 minutes, and dished out 10 assists, shot 22-36 form the field, and 9-10 from the free throw line. Tim Duncan contributed 30 points and 16 rebounds, and Roger Mason scored 26 for the Spurs. Al Jefferson put up 30 points and 14 rebounds, Mike Miller 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, and rookie Kevin Love notched 14 points and 9 rebounds for Minnesota.
With his 55 points and 10 assists, Tony Parker joins some nice company. He is now one of only three players in NBA history to notch at least 55 points and dish out double figure assists. The other two? Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan.

T-Wolves-Warriors 110-113 OT I Jefferson 25pts vs Jackson 30pts
Description:
OAKLAND, Calif., November 11, 2008(AP) -- Stephen Jackson learned a little something about his young teammates when they rallied back to force overtime and then went on to win.
Jackson delivered by tying the game late in regulation and scoring six of his 30 points in overtime, leading the Golden State Warriors back from a poor fourth quarter to beat the hapless Minnesota Timberwolves 113-110 on Tuesday night.
"At the end of the day it's just good to get a win,'' Jackson said. "I definitely give it up for those young guys coming off the bench, trying to figure out their roles. We got it into overtime and we found a way to win. That says a lot about this team with us having so many young guys.''
Jackson hit a 3-pointer with 2:16 left in the extra session and the Warriors sent the Timberwolves to their sixth straight loss. Jackson's transition layin with 22.2 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 106 and Rashad McCants missed a 3-pointer from the top of the arc at the buzzer to send the game into extra time.
Al Jefferson had 25 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for Minnesota, which seemed in control when it led by 10 with 7:06 left. The Timberwolves missed their first five shots in overtime before Randy Foye's basket with 1:07 to play.
Minnesota hasn't won since starting the season with a 98-96 victory against Sacramento at home on Oct. 29.
As if the game wasn't long enough, the officials met to review whether Golden State's C.J. Watson was fouled before the final buzzer sounded and they ultimately added two-tenths of a second to the clock and put Watson at the free throw line. That's after Golden State had dropped confetti that had to quickly be swept off the court for play to resume.
"We were ready to win the game, that's what I liked,'' Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman said. "They fought. We ran into a period there where we didn't defend and they made shots. There's a lot of good things in this but the most important one's a bad thing (losing). I don't know what else to say. We have to learn how to close games out.''
McCants added 18 points off the bench for the Timberwolves and Ryan Gomes, another reserve, had 18 points and five rebounds. Jefferson, who shot 11-for-19, hit a turnaround hook shot with 8:09 to play that put Minnesota ahead 99-91 and appeared to give his team the momentum it needed down the stretch down the stretch.
Golden State's Andris Biedrins finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds before fouling out in overtime, recording his 15th straight double-double dating back to April - the longest current streak in the NBA. Kelenna Azubuike added 22 points and eight rebounds. His two free throws with 1:21 left in regulation got Golden State within 106-104.
"A lot of guys played well, Jack especially,'' Warriors coach Don Nelson said. "We really needed a big game from him to win. I don't know how long I can play him 48 minutes but we'll keep going till he cries.''
Minnesota was winless on its three-game West Coast swing after already dropping games at Sacramento and Portland. The Timberwolves previously lost six in a row from April 1-9 last season, when they also had an eight-game skid and another six-gamer in 2007-08.
"The mood is tough, but no one feels sorry for us,'' Minnesota's Mike Miller said.
The Warriors certainly would like to establish some rhythm at home in Oracle Arena to give this young team some confidence in the season's first month, and the 17,422 fans were thrilled to see them rally back this time.
"I thought we could postpone the rebuilding by a year,'' Nelson said, acknowledging he expects to see a fair share of mistakes early on. "We understand we're not going to be a quick fix. It's going to be a longer-term deal. I've gone through this process before. It's not necessarily a good feeling, but it's a process you have to work through.''
The Timberwolves, who hit nine of their first 15 shots on the way to a quick 19-6 lead, shot 1-of-10 from 3-point range in the first half to fall behind 58-50 at the break despite getting 15 assists to the Warriors' seven.
Notes: The Warriors hired Larry Harris as an assistant coach Tuesday. He previously spent 19 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks in a variety of capacities but has never been an assistant. Harris, the son of veteran NBA coach Del Harris, replaces Larry Riley. Riley took over as Golden State's assistant general manager last week when president Robert Rowell abruptly fired assistant GM Pete D'Alessandro, who had been top basketball executive Chris Mullin's right-hand man for five seasons. ... Golden State's Al Harrington, who wants to be traded, missed his third straight game with a strained lower back and Corey Maggette sat out his fourth consecutive game with a strained left hamstring.

Bio
Ovinton J'Anthony "O. J." Mayo (born November 5, 1987 in Huntington, West Virginia) is an American basketball player currently with the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA. He signed with the team on July 8, 2008. He played college basketball for the University of Southern California (USC). As an athlete at Huntington High School, he was considered by several media outlets to be the best high school basketball player in the United States. He chose to enter the 2008 NBA Draft instead of completing his three remaining years of college eligibility; when he chose Bill Duffy and Associates as his agency, he lost his NCAA eligibility. He was taken third overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves on June 26, 2008.Following the draft, Minnesota traded him and three other players to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Kevin Love and three players. Mayo was a part of the 2008 U.S. Select Team to help get the Olympic Team ready for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In 2006, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound, 18-year-old junior guard was selected as Mr. Basketball of Ohio for the second consecutive season, in addition to being named Associated Press Division III Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. He averaged nearly 29 points, nine rebounds, and six assists per game. He also led his team to three consecutive AP poll titles and garnered much attention from the media, appearing in the pages of Sports Illustrated among other publications. Much like another high school star from Ohio (St. Vincent-St. Mary High School), LeBron James, Mayo drew large enough crowds to force his team into seeking larger venues to support the growing crowds, and often attracted National Basketball Association stars such as James and Carmelo Anthony to watch his games playing for the D-1 Greyhounds He graduated in May 2007 and signed a letter of intent to enroll at USC. He scored an impressive 29 on the ACT, placing him in the 95th percentile nationally Mayo enrolled at the University of Southern California in Summer 2007, taking two classes. While waiting for the season to begin, he began playing pickup basketball against current NBA players Kobe Bryant, Sam Cassell, Kevin Garnett, Mike Dunleavy, Jr., Jason Kidd, Adam Morrison, J. J. Redick.Mayo began his freshman season in the 9681 loss to Mercer with 32 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. In the following 7447 victory over The Citadel, Mayo recorded 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. In the 8575 victory over South Carolina, he posted 29 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. In the 9282 loss to California, Mayo recorded a then-high 34 points. In the 7358 loss to Washington State, he posted 22 points and 7 rebounds. In the 9586 win over Oregon, Mayo recorded 25 points and 8 rebounds, then followed that up with 23 points against Arizona and 20 points against Arizona State. He then had 29 points in the 7359 win over Washington. In the 8175 win over Oregon, Mayo recorded 32 points, then had 21 points in the following victory over Oregon State. In the 8066 loss to Arizona, Mayo posted a career-high 37 points. In the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, the Trojans lost to UCLA, featuring Kevin Love, in the semi-finals. Both Mayo and Love were selected to the All Pac-10 tournament team. In his NCAA Tournament debut with the Trojans, Mayo scored 20 points as USC was beaten by Kansas State and freshman Michael Beasley. Mayo did not return for his sophomore season, opting to enter the 2008 NBA Draft On June 26, 2008, O. J. Mayo was selected 3rd overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Later that day, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, along with Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker, and Greg Buckner, swapping them for the 5th overall pick Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, and Jason Collins.[19] In his NBA Summer League debut, Mayo had 15 points to lead the Grizzlies to a 88-75 win over the New Orleans Hornets.
