PACKING HEAT ARMED & DANGEROUS
Sebastian Telfair

April 2007: Telfair, then a Celtics guard, was arrested after police stopped him near Yonkers for speeding and found a loaded handgun in his SUV. He was suspended for three games after pleading guilty to criminal possession. Fourteen months before that, he was stopped trying to board the Portland Trail Blazers' team plane in Boston with a handgun (registered to his girlfriend) in his travel bag.

JEFF KENT

April 1996: Airport security in St. Louis caught Kent attempting to bring a 6 1/2-inch 44 Magnum onto the Mets' charter flight in his carry-on bag. He explained that he brought the gun to practice target shooting while the Mets were in Pittsburgh and forgot to put it in his checked baggage. Kent was allowed to take the gun with him to Pittsburgh.

DAMIAN ROBINSON

October 2001: The Jets safety was arrested after arriving at Giants Stadium for a game with an assault rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition in his SUV.

JAYSON WILLIAMS

February 2002: The former Nets player, according to the testimony of witnesses, was showing off a shotgun in his bedroom when it fired one shot into the chest of his hired limo driver, killing him. A jury deadlocked on reckless manslaughter charges, and Williams still is awaiting a retrial. Williams also was charged in 1994 after firing a gun in the players' parking lot of the Meadowlands complex.

TANK JOHNSON

November 2005: The Chicago Bears player was arrested at a Chicago nightclub for having a handgun in his SUV. Police searched his home 13 months later and found six firearms, some of which were loaded. He received probation but was later jailed for violating the terms.

STEPHEN JACKSON

October 2006: The Indiana Pacers player fired gunshots into the air as part of an altercation out- side an Indianapolis strip club. He was charged with a felony count of criminal recklessness and suspended by the NBA for seven games.

MAURICE CLARETT

August 2006: Among a multitude of problems, the former Ohio State football star was found to have two firearms in his car after leading police on a chase. That resulted in charges of possession of concealed weapons without a permit. He agreed to a plea bargain of 3 1/2 years in prison.

LONNY BAXTER

August 2006: The former Washington Wizards player spent 60 days in jail in Washington, D.C., as part of a deal in which he pleaded guilty to shooting his gun in the air from his Range Rover not far from the White House. It was Baxter's second gun offense; he received nine months' probation in 2004 after his shotgun accidentally went off in his apartment.

BARRY SWITZER

August 1997:

The Dallas Cowboys coach carried a loaded pistol in his bag into Fort Worth International Airport. He pleaded guilty and was fined $3,500, and was fined an additional $75,000 by the Cowboys.

CHARLES BARKLEY

August 1988: Barkley, then with the 76ers, was arrested by New Jersey state police after they pulled him over for speeding and found a loaded 13-round semi-automatic handgun on the floor of the car. Charges were dropped when a judge ruled the state trooper didn't have probable cause to search the car.
