Minnesota Timberwolves Notes, Quotes 2009-11-14

Minnesota Timberwolves Notes, Quotes 2009-11-14--No Timberwolf wears the No. 23, at least not since Shelden Williams wore it briefly last season. Wolves F Damien Wilkins, though, thinks LeBron James is right on with his movement to have the number retired league-wide to honor Michael Jordan.

"He deserves more than just the Hall of Fame," Wilkins said. "I think it's only right."

Wilkins already honors a star not wearing his number. Wilkins wore his father Gerald's No. 21 (same number his uncle Dominique wore as well) when he played for Seattle and Oklahoma City. But he now wears No. 3 -- 2 plus 1 -- after he was traded to Minnesota out of respect for former Timberwolves superstar Kevin Garnett.

--C Ryan Hollins is a former Maverick. Really, he is.

He showed as much Friday night in his first game against the team for which he played 27 games last season.

Signed as a restricted free agent last summer to a three-year, $7 million deal the Mavs didn't match, Hollins scuffled twice against his former team and was ejected in the third quarter on a night Hollins started next to Nathan Jawai -- a former Maverick as well, but only technically -- in a frontcourt missing Al Jefferson.

Hollins started because coach Kurt Rambis wanted him to play aggressive defense against Dirk Nowitzki. And he did, perhaps too aggressively.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "His voice messages were full, so I sent him a text: Just a personal message, some of it was funny. He'll get back to me eventually, when he gets off the golf course." -- Wolves coach Kurt Rambis on trying to contact former Lakers teammate Byron Scott, who was fired as New Orleans' coach on Thursday.
