Minnesota Timberwolves Notes, Quotes 2009-11-08

Minnesota Timberwolves Notes, Quotes 2009-11-08--F Kevin Love has toned down his talk that he could be ready to return from his fractured left hand within two weeks. After a conversation with coach Kurt Rambis, Love has adjusted his expectations. Love will have his fractured left wrist X-rayed again on Nov. 20. He said on Wednesday he's optimistic he'll get approval that day to start his return if his hand has healed sufficiently. That would be a couple weeks ahead of the original six-to-eight week estimate.

"I got a little excited," he said. "Hopefully I'll be back in two weeks, but we'll just have to wait and see. If it ends up three or four weeks, I don't want it to look like anybody's fault."

--The Wolves have named former Timberwolves guard Darrick Martin to a new assistant coaching position that will focus exclusively on player development. Martin started his 13-season NBA career with the Wolves, then returned for the 2003-2004 season when the Wolves reached the Western Conference finals and Martin started three games against the Lakers in the conference finals after Sam Cassell was injured.

It's no coincidence the Wolves picked a former point guard for that player-developmental coaching job, considering how much the franchise has invested in Jonny Flynn, Ricky Rubio and Ramon Sessions.

"It was part of it, it wasn't the only thing," Rambis said. "I think Darrick brings a lot of other attributes and strengths to it."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Skiles is a point guard, Kurt was a big guy, so it's self-explanatory." -- G Ramon Sessions, when asked about the stylistic differences for a point guard who has played for both Milwaukee coach Scott Skiles' pick-and-roll offense and Kurt Rambis' triangle offense.
