Minnesota Timberwolves Notes, Quotes 2009-11-05

Minnesota Timberwolves Notes, Quotes 2009-11-05--F Kevin Love took off the brace that protects his broken left hand and proudly displayed that hand just after halftime Wednesday night at Target Center.

Look, ma, no stitches. He had them removed at halftime of the game against the Celtics and considered it the next step in his return from that fractured fifth metacarpal bone.

Love broke the hand in a preseason game Oct. 16 at Chicago. At the time, it was estimated he'd miss the next six to eight weeks.

Now the stitches are out. He will have the hand x-rayed two weeks from Friday. If the scan shows sufficient healing, he could be cleared to begin practicing shortly thereafter, which would be well ahead of schedule.

"Hoping," he said as he crossed two fingers on his other, unbroken hand.

--When the Timberwolves on Monday didn't pick up his $2.3 million contract option for the 2010-11 season, Oleksiy Pecherov simply shrugged and said he just wants to spend the rest of this season playing basketball and having fun. He sure did so Wednesday against the Celtics.

Starting his third consecutive game, the 23-year-old Ukrainian delivered a career-high 24 points, exactly double the output of Boston's Kevin Garnett in their matchup against each other at power forward.

He eclipsed by eight points his previous career scoring high. Pecherov, who is seeing the first real extended playing time of his career (34 minutes Wednesday night) in his third NBA season, scored 16 points with Washington in a game against Orlando on March 5, 2008, his rookie season.

"Before this, I didn't have a chance to play a lot," he said. "When you get in the game and play a lot, your confidence comes back. You're not rushing your shots. The game just comes to you. It's easy to play like this. When you play just five minutes or three minutes, you rush. You need time to take in the game."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "They're frustrated. They're angry. They're ticked off. I like that. They should be mad. I'm happy they're mad." -- Wolves coach Kurt Rambis, after his team led Boston by 10 points in the third quarter but lost 92-90 Wednesday at Target Center.
