Minnesota Timberwolves Notes, Quotes 2008-11-15
--Veteran center Jason Collins' surgically repaired elbow is healed, but he's still waiting.

Acquired from Memphis in the draft night Kevin Love-O.J. Mayo trade, Collins, injured in a September golf-cart accident, was cleared to play late last week, but Tuesday's game at Golden State came and went with him still waiting for his first action of season.

"I'm ready to play anytime," he said. "Just waiting for the right matchups."

Collins didn't play in Friday's lethargic loss at Sacramento, then coach Randy Wittman opted to for veteran Mark Madsen's energy at center instead Saturday at Portland. Don Nelson's unconventionally sized lineups left Collins sitting again on Tuesday.

--Teammates never would have guessed that rookie Kevin Love is related to a famous rock star, not by the way he sang "Happy Birthday" after practice Monday in Oakland to teammate Craig Smith, who celebrated his 25th that day.

"It didn't sound like it," Smith said when asked if he could tell Love's Uncle Mike co-founded the Beach Boys. "If he keeps practicing, maybe one day?"

Love was chosen to sing because he's the rookie. It apparently wasn't because he has a lovely singing voice.

"He has no signing voice, no rhythm at all," Wolves coach Randy Wittman said. "It's hard to believe he's got a relative who seems to have that."

Said Love: "'Happy Birthday' is not my thing. If it was the "Star Spangled Banner," I'd have it down pat."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "As the veterans say, ain't no one coming to save us." -- Wolves forward Ryan Gomes on the team's 1-6 start that duplicates last season's start.
