--Backup point guard Sebastian Telfair served the first game of his season-opening three-game suspension on Wednesday night.
That suspension, handed down after he pleaded guilty last month to a weapons charge stemming from an April 2007 arrest when he played for Boston, contributed to the team's decision to keep 11-year veteran Kevin Ollie over young guard Blake Ahearn in their competition for the third point guard position. --The Wolves on Wednesday picked up contract options for the 2009-2010 season for third-year guard Randy Foye and second-year forward Corey Brewer.
Foye, the seventh player selected in the 2006 draft, will earn $3.57 million with that fourth-year option. Brewer will earn $2.9 million for his third-year option.
The Wolves have until Friday to do the same with third-year forward Rodney Carney, but they are not expected to exercise their option. Instead, they will keep their options open and allow themselves the choice of signing him as an unrestricted free agent next summer rather than guarantee him $2.5 million for next season.
They took that strategy with Telfair last summer and ended up signing him for $2.3 million this season rather than for a $3.5 million option year.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "No, we got married." -- Wolves coach Randy Wittman, when told rookie Kevin Love has hired a personal chef and asked if he had one when he played back in the 1980s.
