The Utah Jazz were starting to play well before Carlos Boozer returned from his lengthy absence.
With their lineup finally intact, the Jazz look for a season-high sixth straight victory while trying to win their fourth in a row over the host Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. In Boozer's first game since missing 44 due to a strained tendon and knee surgery, Utah (34-23) won 108-89 at home over Atlanta on Monday. It was the ninth win in 11 games for the Jazz, who played with their full lineup for the first time this season.
"We can be a dangerous team, but it's just one of those things. We have to have that effort every night," said swingman Matt Harpring of the Jazz, who are seventh in the Western Conference.
Utah remained competitive despite various injuries to Boozer, Deron Williams, Mehmet Okur and Andrei Kirilenko. Having Boozer back, however, could be the final piece needed to continue the club's surge up the conference standings.
"Every game feels like a must-win game for us," said guard Ronnie Brewer, who had 19 points against the Hawks. "We are starting to get healthy and back playing well. We've just got to bring this intensity every night."
Boozer, who was averaging 20.5 points and 11.6 rebounds in 12 games before being sidelined, had just two and five rebounds in 21 minutes Monday, but wasn't really needed as the Jazz shot 50 percent and received 58 points from their bench.
"I was a little rusty, but that will come with just playing," said Boozer, who faces the Timberwolves for the first time since averaging 21.8 points in four games against them last season.
Deron Williams added 15 points and 10 assists, while Paul Millsap and Kyle Korver each had 16 for Utah, which has held each of its last three opponents - Boston, New Orleans and Atlanta - to fewer than 90 points.
The Jazz last won six in a row as part of a 10-game winning streak last season.
Utah's two victories over Minnesota (18-38) this season have been decided by a total of eight points.
Okur is averaging 21.7 points in his last three games against the Timberwolves and had 21 with 13 rebounds in the Jazz's 99-96 win at Minnesota on Dec. 9. Brewer had a career-high 25 points in that contest.
Millsap had 28 and 15 rebounds in Utah's 112-107 home victory over Minnesota on Jan. 20.
The Timberwolves fell to 1-5 since star center Al Jefferson suffered a season-ending knee injury with a 118-110 loss at Toronto on Tuesday.
Randy Foye had 25 points and Ryan Gomes added 23 for but Minnesota, which blew a 16-point lead for its third consecutive loss and 11th in the last 13 contests.
Without the 6-foot-10 Jefferson, the Timberwolves are playing at a faster pace and have allowed an average of 111 points in their last six contests.
"When you're playing at that pace, it's very hard to be disciplined defensively," coach Kevin McHale said. "You can't have that."
Foye and Gomes each had 19 points against Utah last month. Foye is averaging 16.8 on the season and 24.5 in his last six games.
